WiMAX Development in Asia October 11 - 17

- Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs announced on October 14, 2010 that the Ministry will invest NT$6.6 billion (US$214.9 million; US$1=NT$30.7) in WiMAX industry between 2010 and 2013 in Taiwan to promote WiMAX development in the country, according to the Commercial Times of Taiwan. The Ministry estimates that by 2013, the Taiwanese WiMAX equipment and service sector will account for one-sixth in the global WiMAX market, and CPE's share will reach more than 90%, generating an annual output of NT$130 billion (US$4.2 billion), according to the same source.

- Taiwanese WiMAX operator Global Mobile announced that the company will cooperate with taxi operator Taiwan Taxi to allow taxi passengers to enjoy free WiMAX services, according to an October 13, 2010 report by iThome Online of Taiwan. It is reported that the new service will be available in Taipei City. Global Mobiles aims to provide WiMAX services for 1,000 taxis by the end of 2010.
